What are the ten principles under Global Compact?

A business supporting Global Compact should: 

  1. Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights
  2. Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses
  3. Uphold the freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
  4. Uphold the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour
  5. Uphold the effective abolition of child labour
  6. Uphold the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation
  7. Support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges
  8. Undertake initiatives to promote environmental responsibility
  9. Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies
  10. Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery

  • Global Compact is the world's largest voluntary initiative for corporate citizenship within CSR.
  • Around 9000 companies and 135 organisations have signed the UN Global Compact. The goal is for UN to 20.000 supporting companies and organisations in the year 2020.
  • Approximately 2000 companies have been deleted from the lists of Global Compacts due to the lack of an annual report.
  • The core of the Global Compact is ten underlying principles based on international legislation regarding human rights and workers rights as well as environmental protection and anti corruption.
  • The purpose is that companies voluntarily can contribute to the solution of the world’s social and environmental challenges.
  • It is free to support Global Compact, but businesses are invited to provide donations. Global Compact makes a number of tools available for the companies supporting the initiative.
